Can the studio be hired on the weekend?

Yes, the studio is available for hire 7 days a week.

How much is it to hire the studio for a half or full day?

The studio is available to hire on a half or full day basis 7 days a week.  A half day hire is for 4 hours at $390.00 and a full day hire is for 8 hours at  $590.00.  Weekend bookings attract a $100 loading fee.  If you need to stay beyond the allocated time frames you can, any extended day hire is calculated at $85 p/hour or any part thereof.  All of these rates are inclusive of GST.   Student and folio rates are available upon request.

Please note, rates vary for TVC’s, TV productions, film and event space hire. For a quote to suit your requirements, please send us an email with your details via the contact page and we will get back to you shortly.

What time does a half day booking start and finish?

A half day booking is for four hours and so the studio can be hired either in the morning or the afternoon. The morning sessions may start from 8am to 12pm or 9am to 1pm and the afternoon sessions may start from 1pm to 4pm or 2pm to 6pm. Notice will need to be given at the time of making the booking if extra time needs to be allowed.

What happens if the shoot runs overtime?

If a shoot runs overtime, don’t worry we won’t kick you out as we allow for this possibility at the time of making the booking.

When the studio is booked for a full day, the prospect of the shoot maybe running overtime is always taken into account at the time of making the booking and therefore we do not make any other bookings for the remainder of that day.

When the studio is booked for a half day in the morning, we ask that you advise us at the time of making the booking if there is a chance that the shoot may run overtime just so we allow that extra time so as to not clash with another half day booking in the afternoon.

When a shoot runs overtime we call this an extended day hire and any extended day hire hours are charged at $80.00 per hour inc GST or any part thereof.

Is there lighting equipment available for hire?

Yes.  We have a selection of photographic lighting equipment and accessories available for hire when the studio is hired for a half or full day. For a list of the equipment available for hire, please call or send us an email via the contacts page.

What size is the cyclorama?

The cyclorama floor measures 7.3m wide x 6.7m deep, and 3.6m high from floor to ceiling.

Are there additional costs to repaint the cyclorama?

Yes, on some occasions there can be.

Basically the studio will be hired out to you with a clean cyclorama. As is in most cases, if the cyclorama has only got dusty footprint marks on it or basic dirt that can be vaccumed or mopped off, then there are no additional repaint charges.  General maintenance is included in the cost of the studio hire.

In the event however that the cyclorama is scuffed and marked to the point where a good clean and mop won’t get it back to white again, then a $75.00 re paint fee per coat of paint required to get it back to white will be charged.  Studio management will advise if the fee is to be charged at the conclusion of the hire period after assessing the cyclorama.

What other types of backdrops are available?

If you don’t want to just use the cyclorama as your backdrop then we have a large variety of coloured paper roll backdrops at the standard 2.7 metre wide available for hire or be our guest and bring your own.  We have 2 sets of triple hooks and ends set up, one set over the cyclorama and the other set over the opposite wall giving you the opportunity to have 2 lighting and backdrop sets on the go at once if need be.

The paper roll backdrops are for hire at  $40.00 p/day each, plus $15.00 per metre for any soiled or damaged paper.

Please feel free to contact us to see if we have the colour you require.

Is there parking available on site?

Yes.  The studio has secure garage parking which can accommodate up to 2 cars.  If additional parking spaces are required, there is a multi level car park just off Brunswick St, accessible via Argyle St, which has great day rates and is only a couple of minutes walk to the studio.  Alternatively, there is plenty of one and two hour on street parking in and around the small streets surrounding the studio.

Is the studio heated?

Yes. The studio and makeup room are fully heated and air conditioned, so working in Melbourne’s weather extremes has never been so comfortable!

Is there a makeup room?

Yes. The studio has a makeup/models change room for complete privacy whilst models are being made up and changing clothes.  The makeup room is well lit and equipped with heating and air conditioning, large mirrors and bench space, high makeup chairs, a large wall  mounted clothes rack and iron and ironing board.

How far in advance do I need to make a booking in order to secure the date/s I require?

Generally I advise people that the more in advance you can make a booking for the studio, the more likely you are to secure the date that you most desire. This is most true  particularly if you need to hire the studio for 2 consecutive days or more.  And if you need to hire the studio for a 7 day booking or more we ask that you give us at least one months notice.

For regular full or half day bookings, if you make a booking within 2 weeks of when you require the space, you have a fairly good chance of getting the date you want.

It never hurts to try anytime though, because we will always try our best to get you in!

Can the studio be hired for videos, film and TVC’s?

Yes absolutely!  Over the years we have had many people come through our doors shooting music video, instructional or promotional videos and even TVC’s most recently including a commercial for the NBN and SKI D’Lite yogurt featuring Kate Ritchie.

Rates may vary for TV productions, film and TVC’s so for a quote to suit your requirements please send us an email with the details via our contact page.

Is there a goods lift to bring equipment and props up to the second floor?

Yes, absolutely!  There is a goods lift which can be loaded up with all of your heavy equipment and props from the loading dock within the garage and brought up to the studio on the second floor the easy way!  The goods lift can take a maximum load of 600kg’s.

What type of events or showings can be held at the studio?

The studio is a fully heated and air conditioned 174sqm open plan space and so there are a large number of events that this space can be used for.  For instance, product launches, corporate functions, exhibitions, workshops and rehearsal space just to name a few and even in some instances, cocktail parties and weddings.  We also have some regular clients who love using the space for wholesale showings of their products by appointment to their retailers.

We welcome making appointments to view the space and to discuss the possibilities!

Can the studio be hired for week long bookings?

Yes.  The studio can be hired for block bookings of 2 consecutive days or more.  In the case of event hire, when it is hired for an exhibition or a wholesale showing by appointment for example, the studio can be booked for a week or more at a time, we just require at least one months notice for bookings this size.  There is also a 10% discount which applies to bookings of 7 consecutive days or more.

Does the studio get any direct sunlight coming through the large windows?

No.  The studio is south facing and so it does not get any direct sunlight through the windows. Instead,  the light is always a soft, beautiful, ambient glow which makes it ideal for portrait, food, product and even fashion photography.  There are however also black out blinds fitted on all of the windows where a dark studio with more controlled lighting conditions are required.

Can the studio arrange catering?

Yes. There are a vast number of fantastic food and drink options on Brunswick St and they all generally will cater for breakfast, lunch, dinner and anything in between.  If you require catering please let us know at least a week before your booking and we would be happy to arrange that for you!
